In a world where things are changing faster than ever, it’s easy to feel stressed about every little thing. Part of building a long-term career as an author is knowing what’s important, and what’s not.
Here are five things you can stop worrying about so you can focus on the important stuff.
- Don’t worry about having one “perfect” book. Think in terms of writing many books, not a single book where you deposit your life’s knowledge.
- Don’t worry about social media posts, blog posts, or other short-form content that doesn’t get traction immediately. Try new things and see what works. You’ll learn what connects with your audience over time.
- Don’t worry about people taking a while to get excited about your book. Books are a long-term deal. After an initial launch period, embrace the idea of promoting the book for many years.
- Don’t worry about creating a lot of income streams right now. Pick one thing like a course, a book, coaching, client work, or podcasting, and focus on it for a while.
- Don’t worry about being on all the social media platforms. Pick one and be really active for three months. Then, you can move to other ones.
Being a curious writer means that you’re constantly learning and experimenting. Don’t get stressed about the next five minutes.
Instead, take the long view of success, go with the flow, do your best, and keep a beginner’s mindset.
Today’s Challenge: Does knowing you don’t need to worry about these things make it easier to explore your curiosity?
