Picture this: You are the co-author of an enormously successful business book series. You want to write another book in the series, but it’s on a very different topic than the others. You also want to write it with your wife, instead of your original co-author. And, by the way, you’re also going to use a different publisher than the original series.
Sounds like a challenge you would back away from? To most people, yes… but not for John David Mann!
The series I’m talking about is the ultra-successful Go-Giver book series that began with 2008’s The Go-Giver book. The series was an enormous success, and it also happens to be one of my favorite books of all time. John David Mann and his co-author, Bob Burg, impacted countless lives with those books.
However, it’s primarily a business book series, and John wanted to write a Go-Giver book on marriage with his wife, Ana Gabriel Mann. They successfully pushed through all the potential challenges of a special situation like this and just released The Go-Giver Marriage: A Little Story About the 5 Secrets to Lasting Love.
Let me share a brief bio of each of them, so you can have a sense of how amazing they are.
John David Mann is co-author of more than thirty books, including four New York Times bestsellers and five national bestsellers, including The Go-Giver (coauthored with Bob Burg), which has sold over 1 million copies and won the 2017 Living Now Book Awards Evergreen Medal for its “contributions to positive global change.” He is married to Ana Gabriel Mann and considers himself the luckiest “mann” in the world.
Ana Gabriel Mann, MA, holds a Master’s degree in clinical psychology and dance-movement therapy from Antioch New England, where she specialized in working with adults and family therapy. In addition to her work in family therapy and her 5 Secrets marriage coaching, she has been clinical director for a program for people with Alzheimer’s disease, co-founded New England’s first college of Chinese medicine, and worked as a corporate consultant, speaker, trainer, and coach.
I’m excited I was able to chat with John and Ana about their unique opportunities in writing this very special Go-Giver book. They shared their process of writing the book, how they create a parable-style book, why they include a teaching section at the end of the book, how they divided up the work, the value of storytelling in the teaching process, and much more.
