]]>When we talk about writing on the podcast, we usually do it in the context of writing books. But writing can take many forms, and today I’m excited to welcome a guest whose writing and creative work has taken shape in many different ways over the years.
Andrew Greer is an eight-time Dove Award-nominated singer/songwriter, producer, author and television/podcast host who is known for his old soul sound and thoughtful conversations.
Andrew’s fifth and newest collaboration with Parable Christian Stores, Tune My Heart 2…Songs of Goodness & Love, follows last year’s Tune My Heart…Songs of Rest & Reflection—which debuted at #1 and spent 23 weeks atop Parable Christian Stores National Retail chart.
In addition to writing and recording his own music, Andrew is a producer as well. Just last month, we saw the release of Bellsburg: The Songs of Rich Mullins, co-produced by Andrew. The album featured recordings of classic Rich Mullins songs by Christian artists, including Amy Grant, Derek Webb, Cindy Morgan, Andrew Peterson, and many others.
Andrew is also known for facilitating conversations that dig deep. He co-created and co-hosts the popular television and streaming series Dinner Conversations with Mark Lowry and Andrew Greer. Additionally, he co-hosts Bridges with Patsy Clairmont and Andrew Greer, which is a podcast inviting listeners of all ages to find common ground by embracing a fierce faith in a tough season.
Carrying on his affinity for meaningful conversations in a spiritual context, Andrew has authored two books—Transcending Mysteries: Who is God, and What Does He Want From Us? co-authored with Ginny Owens, and Winds of Heaven, Stuff of Earth: Spiritual Conversations Inspired by the Life and Lyrics of Rich Mullins.
As you can see, Andrew is an artist and writer who operates in multiple genres and formats. In this wide-ranging conversation, we talk about his journey as an artist and musician, his burgeoning interest in filmmaking, producing the new Rich Mullins album, and much more.

]]>Do you have trouble focusing and getting your writing done? It’s a common problem almost all writers face. On today’s episode, we’ll explore how to focus and be more productive with your writing using cutting-edge science.
My guest is Dan Clark, CEO of Brain.fm, a company that takes a science-first approach to creating music that sounds different, and affects you differently, than anything you’ve heard.
Dan originally worked as a website and app developer, but decided to switch careers from building an advertising agency when he came across Brain.fm. He bought an account in his first session and was so excited after just a week of use, he was determined to be part of the company. He called them 12 times until he finally got a job, and worked the first month for free.
Fast forward, he’s now the CEO of Brain.fm, and was named one of Forbes 30 under 30 in 2019. Dan is always excited about how technology can change the world.
On this episode, Dan shares the science behind Brain.fm, how the music is created, and why it helps you focus. I have been using Brain.fm for a few weeks now on nearly a daily basis, and it has absolutely helped my focus and productivity. This was a fascinating conversation. After you hear it, I’m sure you will want to redeem your free 1-month subscription to Brain.fm.

]]>For most writers, writing feels like work because it requires a lot of brainpower. So why not use tools that help make the work easier?
One of the most effective tools is music to help you focus. There are three different music tools I use to help me do this. Most of the time when I’m writing, I use one of these.
The first is Brain.fm. This is scientifically-designed focus music you can set for specific amounts of time. It’s not normal music like you hear on the radio. It’s more like music that has a drone element to it. When you have the same sounds, tempo, and rhythms going for an hour, it has a hypnotic effect that helps you get into the zone.
The second is YouTube, where there are tons of focus music playlists for every musical taste imaginable. Do a search for these and I’m sure you will find something you like.
The third is this movie score playlist I have on Spotify. I love to listen to scores from movies like those in the MCU, Harry Potter, Superman, and so forth. Sometimes I get tired of the focus music and want to listen to something that makes me feel heroic!
If you’ve never used any of these, give them a shot and see if it helps you improve your focus and be more productive.

]]>I’m excited to bring you this encore presentation of my interview with Jeni Voss, who is the lead singer of That 80’s Band, a fantastic music group based in St. Louis.
Jeni has quite a story to share, and I have to say this was one of my favorite podcast interviews. As you hear Jeni’s story, you’ll be inspired by her pursuit of an authentic life through a variety of creative and community experiences.
Authenticity is a key part of your journey as a writer. I know you’ll enjoy Jeni’s story and insights about the creative life.

]]>On this episode, I’m sharing a conversation with my friend Eric Elder from 2019. He is an author, speaker, and pianist with a passion for sharing Christ with others.
Eric is a pioneer in online ministry, and he has also produced a wealth of books and music for The Ranch, an online spiritual retreat. He also recently released a filmed version of “One Life: A Christmas Story Ballet,” which was adapted from his book St. Nicholas: The Believer.
I talked to Eric about the idea of creative entrepreneurship because as writers, we are also entrepreneurs and business owners. Eric is the perfect person to help us think through this idea of creative entrepreneurship because he an original thinker who created a worldwide-impacting ministry from scratch.
In our conversation, we tackle tough issues such as what entrepreneurship is all about, why it’s OK to disappoint people, why ambition is a good thing if handled in the right way, and how to discern if you are called to something.
