For well over two thousand years, people have searched for the Fountain of Youth, a magical spring that would reverse the aging of anyone who drank from it or bathed in it.
The earliest appearance of this legend is from the Greek historian Herodotus, writing in the 5th century B.C. Numerous other writers mentioned the Fountain of Youth over the next two thousand years, but it rose to legendary status in the 16th century when it was associated with the Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon. Since then, it’s appeared in books, movies, and other media, including the 1985 film Cocoon.
While the legend of the Fountain of Youth is not literally true, there is a way you can light your creative spark that may have dimmed over the years. This is by using the power of curiosity.
Don’t miss out on all the wonder and magic that life has to offer. It doesn’t matter how old you are. You’re still alive, aren’t you? That means your purpose has not been completed.
There are lots of simple ways to spark your curiosity every day. Take a hike. Talk to a stranger. Read a new book. Start a new project. Join a writing group. Go to a play. Do something, anything, to break out of your patterns and inject something new into your day.
Walt Disney said, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”
You don’t need a Fountain of Youth to give you new life. You just need to follow your curiosity.
